Inspiration
Two-time Olympic Short-Track Speedskater and many-time U.S. National Champion Maame Biney got her short-track start at Fort Dupont Ice Arena in the rink's Learn to Speedskate program, which was directed by three-time Olympian Coach Nat and inspired by two-time Olympic Champion Shani Davis.
Maame made her competitive debut at age 7 in DC-ICE's annual DC Open Meet at FDIA, which introduced many of the region's - nation's - top young skaters to Olympic-style short-track speed skating competition.
Olympian in Life
Born in Ghana and raised in Northern Virginia by her father Kweku, Maame moved to Salt Lake City to train at the Olympic Oval and study at the University of Utah. Like Shani Davis before her, Maame's commitment to excellence serves as a bright example of Olympism for youth everywhere..
