Inspiration
5-time U.S. National Champion Maame Biney got her start on speedskates at Fort Dupont Ice Arena. One of the earliest participant in FDIA's Learn to Speedskate program, Maame raced in her first competition at FDIA, the 2007 DC Open Meet, which has introduced many of the region's - and now nation's - top speedskaters to the world of competitive short-track competition.

Olympian in Life
Ghana-born Maame continues to inspire DC-ICE and Kids On Ice skaters, including annually as an awards presenter at the DC Open Meet.  Like Shani Davis, Maame's unassuming participation serves as a bright example of Olympism for DC-ICE youth.

Legacy
Already a pioneering champion, Maame aspires to be among the world's best short track speedskaters, and she is training hard to represent the U.S. at the 2018 Olympic Winter Games!
